Getting you started on the right foot

Dachshunds were originally bred to be hunting dogs to burrow for badgers so you’ll often find that they’re a dog who likes to dig. As puppies, they’ll need chew toys.

Because of their size distribution, they’re more susceptible to back injuries. You can support them by picking them up or using pet stairs to help them get on tall furniture. Being aware of their weight can also help protect their back.

Dachshunds are a very intelligent breed with the capacity to easily learn when they’re provided with firm boundaries — they need order, rules, and discipline. If there’s a lack of structure early on, they can be very defiant.
